How to Plan AV for a Hotel Ballroom Event

Each format changes screen scale, audio distribution, camera positions, lighting, stage access and rehearsal needs.

EXCEPTION.

A power cable beside an XLR lead does not automatically produce hum. Balanced transmission, cable geometry, shielding, source and receiver impedance balance, termination quality, signal level, current and the electrical environment all affect the result. Separation remains valuable because it removes an avoidable coupling opportunity before the room goes live.

Length increases exposure

Avoid long shared runs where practical, particularly for microphone-level or unbalanced signals and beside high-current feeds, dimmers, motors, transformers or switching equipment.

02 / Necessary crossings

Cross near 90 degrees

When audio and power paths must intersect, a short near-perpendicular crossing reduces the length over which the conductors remain closely coupled.

03 / Balanced paths

Rejection is not immunity

Balanced inputs reject interference that reaches both signal conductors equally. Poor impedance balance, damaged shielding, incorrect wiring or compromised equipment can reduce that protection.

04 / The live environment

Route the complete system

Signal integrity must be coordinated with cable ramps, mechanical protection, connector strain, audience routes, venue finishes, water exposure, escape paths and access for inspection.
